Collapsible Box Machines

Short answer

A collapsible rigid box ships flat and folds up into a rigid box. Making one takes a finished case, wrapped side wings and an assembly step. The HF-8020 and HF-800D wrap the wings, the HF-1050 glues the paper and positions board on it to ±0.1 mm, and the HF-1150 assembles the box at 15–20 pcs/min.

Overview

How a collapsible box is put together.

A collapsible rigid box looks like an ordinary rigid box once it is set up, but two of its walls are hinged. Each of those side wings is a narrow greyboard strip with a triangle board at either end, wrapped in paper and creased so that it folds inward. With the wings folded, the box lies flat for shipping and storage.

That construction splits production into three jobs. The outer case is made like a hardcover book case. The side wings are positioned, wrapped and creased on their own machine. Then the two are glued together, square on both sides, in an assembly step. The machines in this category cover the wings and the assembly; the case comes from the case making range or from the HF-1050 with a four-side wrapping machine.

Assembly is the step that sets the output of the line. The HF-1150 feeds the finished case, sprays glue, places both wings with three vision stations and presses them, at 15–20 pieces per minute.

How to choose

4 things to settle first.

  1. 01

    How the wings are made

The HF-8020 is a complete wing line: it feeds and glues the paper, positions the middle board and the triangle boards by camera to ±0.1 mm, wraps and creases. The HF-800D only wraps, at 19–25 pcs/min, and follows hand positioning or a positioning machine.

  2. 02

    Wing capacity against assembly

A box needs two wings. One HF-8020 at 20–30 sheets/min supplies 10 to 15 boxes per minute, while the HF-1150 assembles 15–20. Running the assembly machine at full speed takes a second wing machine or wings made ahead.

  3. 03

    Case and wing sizes

    The HF-1150 takes cases from 400 × 150 mm to 1150 × 500 mm and side boards from 230 × 50 mm to 700 × 150 mm. The HF-8020 wraps finished wings from 160 × 40 mm to 800 × 200 mm, with triangle boards of 40–200 mm leg length.

  4. 04

    Power and weight

The HF-1150 is the heavy machine of the range at 8,200 kg and 23 kW on 380 V. The HF-8020 is 2,100 kg with a 14 kW motor; the HF-800D is 350 kg and runs on 220 V.

FAQ

Which machines are in the HORFON collapsible box machines range?

4 machines: HF-1150 Automatic Folding Box Visual Positioning Assembly Machine; HF-8020 Automatic Folding Box Side Wing Wrapping Machine; HF-800D Automatic Folding Box Wing Wrapping Machine; HF-1050 Automatic Visual Positioning Machine for Rigid Box and Hardcover.

What is the difference between the HF-8020 and the HF-800D?

The HF-8020 is a 7 m line with camera positioning to ±0.1 mm. It feeds and glues the paper, places the greyboard and triangle boards, wraps and creases the wing, at 20–30 sheets/min. The HF-800D is a compact 350 kg machine that only wraps the wing, at 19–25 pcs/min.

How many collapsible boxes can the HF-1150 assemble in a shift?

Up to about 9,600 pieces per 8-hour shift with 1 m long case shells. The working speed is 15–20 pcs/min.

What size of collapsible box can the HF-1150 assemble?

Cases from 400 × 150 mm to 1150 × 500 mm, with side greyboard from 230 × 50 mm to 700 × 150 mm.

Which machine makes the outer case of a collapsible box?

The HF-550 case maker in one machine, or the HF-1050 positioning line followed by the HF-900 four-side wrapping machine. Both run up to 30 pieces per minute for cases up to 1000 × 500 mm.

Does the HF-8020 crease the wing as well?

Yes. It pastes and grooves two vertical edges and one horizontal edge in the machine, which removes a manual creasing step afterwards. Its corner nipping function also reduces the need for a cutting die for each product.
